Beef and Broccoli Stir-fry
Ingredients
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon five spice
1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
1 lb boneless sirloin steak or any good cut of steak
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 tablespoon canola oil
4 cups broccoli florets
1 small onion, cut into slices
1 clove garlic
1/2 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
1 small can sliced water chestnuts
Sauce:
1/3 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons water
hot cooked rice
Directions
In a bowl, combine 2 tablespoons cornstarch, 1 tablespoon canola oil, 1 tablespoons soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic powder, five spice, and ginger until smooth. Add beef and toss. Let marinade 4 hours.
In a large skillet or wok over medium high heat, stir-fry beef in 1 tablespoon oil until beef reaches desired doneness; remove and keep warm.
Stir-fry broccoli and onion in remaining oil for 4-5 minutes. Add garlic, mushrooms, water chestnuts, and return beef to pan.
Combine soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger, 1 tablespoon cornstarch and 2 tablespoons water until smooth; add to the pan. Cook and stir for 2 minutes. Or until heated through.
Serve over rice.
